SEO is an acronym for Search Engine Optimizing.
It is the process of increasing the amount of visitors to a Web site by ranking high in the search results of a search engine. The higher a Web site ranks in the results of a search, the greater the chance that that site will be visited by a user. It is the process of choosing targeted keyword phrases related to a site.

Important characteristics of webpage
A web page or webpage is a resource of information that is suitable for the World Wide Web and can be accessed through a web browser. This information is usually in HTML or XHTML format, and may provide navigation to other web pages via hypertext links.
A webpage that will stand out and be noticed by your visitors. One that will keep those visitors returning to your site, again and again. An effective webpage that is 95% better than most of the other pages on the Net.
Optimized:
A great webpage will always be bookmarkable. Your visitor will want to bookmark your page and return to it for more information. Make sure you make it easy for your visitor to bookmark your page. Use a bookmark script. Make sure you have a favicon, this is a small logo you place on your site and it will be automatically picked up and displayed in your visitor's bookmarks, drawing attention to your page.

A webpage that will stand out and be noticed by your visitors. One that will keep those visitors returning to your site, again and again. An effective webpage that is 95% better than most of the other pages on the Net.
Optimized:
- Search engine optimization (SEO) is a subset of search engine marketing, and deals with improving the number and/or quality of visitors to a web site from "natural" listings. The term SEO can also refer to "search engine optimizers", an industry of consultants who carry out optimization projects on behalf of clients.
- The average webpage will get most of its traffĂc from the search engines, mainly Google, although MSN and Yahoo are also worth considering. Optimize your page for Google. Use a simple hierarchy; keep your pages no more than three clicks away from the main page. Linking all your pages to your index page is a good practice, always do this. The search engines will find your page faster if it is linked directly from the main index page of your site.
Easy Navigation:
- One reason for this is that site designers do not place themselves into the mind of a first-time visitor to the site. Designers know the contents of their sites and the way to reach any page, and assume that anyone else can do the same!
- A great webpage will have easy and simple navigation. Link your page to and from your main index page if you can. Make sure you link to it from your sitemap page. Many webmasters put all the main links on their site at the top or the bottom of all their webpages, so that a visitor can freely move around and find what they're looking for. Keep your visitors' comfort level in mind at all times.
Fresh Content:
A webpage will always have fresh content. Make sure you update your webpage often. Our world's technology changes rapidly, make sure your material is current and still revelant.
Selected Keyword
- Good keywords are the very first building blocks you must consider before your webpage even becomes a dim notion in your head. Picking the right keyword or keyword phrase is the ultimate factor that will determine the success or failure of your webpage. You must do major research on the keyword or keyword phrases that will be the focal point and drawing card for your webpage.
- The quality and relevance of your website traffic would largely depend on the keywords or key phrases you are targeting. Therefore, it is important to target the right keywords. Your keywords should be related to the theme of your website.
Design
A web page or webpage is a resource of information that is suitable for the World Wide Web and can be accessed through a web browser. This information is usually in HTML or XHTML format, and may provide navigation to other web pages via hypertext links.
- Design the webpage Simple and clear because the visitor read carefully. The webpage design professional. Do spelling and grammar check.
- Keep your visitors in mind at all times when designing your webpage. Keep it on topic, keep it related to your keywords. Most marketing studies show that's its best not to confuse your visitors with too many options.

What is link and its type?
HTML offers many of the conventional publishing idioms for rich text and structured documents, but what separate it from most other markup languages are its features for hypertext and interactive documents. This section introduces the link, the basic hypertext construct. A link is a connection from one Web resource to another. Although a simple concept, the link has been one of the primary forces driving the success of the Web. The web as they call it is a mesh of links. The wired world is now being counted for what it is. A Network. The more your pages are wired or integrated into the overall web linking architecture, the better it is from search engine ranking point of view. Google specially thrives on crawling on links. Its page rank is a measure of this.
When setting up the linking architecture of your site keep in mind that links are of two kinds:
1. Internal links
2. External links
Internal links: Internal links are links to other pages on the same web site. They are the bridges by which one page of your site connects to the other & more importantly outlines, which page of your site will connect to which other page's.
External links: External links are those that take you to another site. External links on the other hand are the community tools by which the online community votes for you by linking to you. The more popular you get is a function of more incoming links into your website. This in turn is interpreted by search engines as a measure of your online value creation.
Linking Attribute
It is always preferable to have a text link rather then a Graphic/Image link, because in a text link you can use Keywords as the text on which hyperlink is given. In effect you can make your anchor tag keyword rich. Anchor tags' text is a very important criterion in search engine ranking matrix. Search engines look at not only how many people are linking to you, how important they themselves are but also what they are saying while linking to you. In fact search engines like Google have gone a step ahead. They not only look at the anchor tag but also the text surrounding it. Essentially they are trying to establish the relevance of that link to your pages content.
Another important aspect of the internal linking of your site is the sitemap. A sitemap is a page that contains links to every page on the site. There should be a link to the sitemap on every page, or at least on the homepage. A sitemap helps you to have an overview of your site linking architecture as well as it helps SE crawl the entire web site.
Internal linking architecture
There are three forms that can be assumed while planning the sites internal linking pattern.
Hierarchal: In this kind of Internal linking all the pages of the website are connected to the home page and home page is individually connected to all the pages of the website, but there is no linking between the pages of the website.
Looping: In this kind of Internal linking the home page is connected to the primary page and the primary page is connected to the secondary page and this process goes on till the last page and the last page is connected to the home page in this way a loop is formed.
Extensive inter linking: In this kind of Internal linking each page is connected to each other in the website. What kind of internal linking is preferable in a certain case is dependent on the objectives you are trying to achieve in terms of Page rank optimization, user navigation ease & site theme. One tip to bear in mind is that internal linking should reinforce the theme. One should not crosslink between the pages on the site which are unrelated by themes. This will dilute the theme intensity & affect the page rankings on SERPs.
Redundant Internal links: Two categories of internal links that should be guarded against are: broken links & dead links.
Broken links: Broken links are the links that are in the website and when they are clicked they don't open a webpage rather they show some error.
Dead links: Dead links are the links that are in the website and when they are clicked they don't open a webpage and they don't even show some error.
External linking
External linking on the other hand is more difficult to control & hence more valued by search engines. This is what really builds up the PR of the webpage. Good quality incoming links are craved by the online promotion experts all over.

Improve your Search Engine Ranking
Search engine ranking is a measure of the online promotional success of a web page or website. Improving search engine ranking in competitive niche markets require a good deal of knowledge and expertise. Most search engines default to ten organic or natural listings per page. Many include sponsor links before or to the right of the results. Many searchers will be satisfied with the first page or two, so getting a top 20 or 30 listing can have an impact on a website's success.
Google’s Page Rank
Algorithm As many of you are probably already aware, Google ranks a page according to the number and quality of links leading to that page. For example, if your page has 100 quality links leading to it, it will rank higher than another page that has only 20 links pointing at it. Quality links come from pages that are themselves "important" (Google's own terminology).
Tips to improve your Search Engine Ranking
• Key words density is the ratio of a keyword or key phrase to the total words on a page. It is one of the most critical aspects of search engine optimization. To improve search engine ranking, your keyword density must not be too high or too low. The best keywords you should include on your site are those that are very popular, but have a low number of competing web sites.
• Don't just focus on your main keywords. For Example, if you are a realtor in a particular area, don’t just optimize your site for “real estate." Optimize your site for dentist, florist, movie theaters- I think you get the idea. Before you decide which keywords to target, you'll want to do a lot of keyword research. Throw natural listings in there as well. You would be amazed how many unique visitors will come through to your site when outside of the box thinking occurs.
• Create a site that is focused on the end user. So many SEO's spend too much time creating a navigation that is to please the Search Engine Spiders that they forget about the end user. Think about what your target market needs to accomplish their goals, and then put it on your site so that they can find it fast.
• Create a site map that tells people where everything is on your site. You will get about a 1% click through rate to your site map, however, it will do wonders for those who know what site maps do, and the Search Engines will like it as well.
• Google seems to give weight to the title of your page. By title, I mean the text that is sandwiched between the HTML TITLE tags in the HEAD section of your web page. If you use a Web editor that automatically inserts a title like "New Page", remember to change it to some meaningful text with your keywords inside to reap the benefit of this feature.
• According to a paper published by one of Google's founders, if the links pointing to your page has the relevant keyword text in them, it will cause your page to be ranked higher in search engine results. How many times have you clicked on a link and looked at the URL, and it contained about 32 extra letters and numbers in it? Google won't spider any URL that looks like this. Avoid using dynamic URLs.
• Make sure all pages link to at least one other page. Links to pages that don't link out are called "dangling links". Google founders, Sergey Brin and Lawrence Page, once wrote about Dangling links.
• Dangling links are simply links that point to any page with no outgoing links. They affect the model because it is not clear where their weight should be distributed, and there are a large number of them. Often these dangling links are simply pages that we have not downloaded yet. Because dangling links do not affect the ranking of any other page directly, we simply remove them from the system until all the Page Ranks are calculated. After all the Page Ranks are calculated they can be added back in without affecting things significantly.
• Get as many people to talk about your site as possible. How do you do this? Create a "how to" or something that will benefit your target market. The best way to get good links to your site is to create world class Search Engine Content- write about 225-300 words of copy for each keyword and plant it on your site each day. Grow, grow, and grow. Make it as natural as possible and the Search Engines will reward you will a first page ranking.
• Once you built a good site with great SEO content, your site will continue to perform. Always add new pages of content to your site and you will see miracles occur.
